Helderberg Farm, situate at the foot of the Helderberg Mountain, offers traditional South African charm as well as a friendly atmosphere. For five generations our family have lived and farmed in the unique Boland Winelands.
Visitors can expect to encounter indigenous wildlife on the farm. The cry of the fish eagle is regularly heard, blue cranes pass overhead on their way to Caledon and the Overberg and Cape clawless otters leave their characteristic prints in the mud. You may even come across the tracks of the Cape leopard. Visiting birdwatchers have sighted over 100 different species.
There are a variety of hiking routes – ranging from short and easy to more challenging. Those able to hike the long trail will be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views encompassing the Cape Peninsula, False Bay, Table Bay and Table Mountain. On a clear day, hikers can even see Robben Island which is approximately 65km away. The Boland Winelands stretches to your right as far as the eye can see. Hikers also have the opportunity to see one of the biggest Mountain Candlewood trees in South Africa.
Stocked mainly with produce from the farm, the kiosk is the next stop with Rudi’s chocolate cake as the highlight. Relax at the tea garden, set in tranquil leafy surroundings between well-established willow and oak trees. Fresh strawberries, grown on the farm, are served in season and are available for visitors to handpick between October and December (strawberry fields closed on Sundays).
Granny’s Forest offers a variety of picnic and braai sites which can cater for up to 200 people. This is an ideal setting for rustic farm weddings, team building events and kiddies or adults birthday parties.
